PYNEH has acquired professional accreditation on different services since 1997
These included accreditation of ISO 9000 series attained by the Administrative Services Division, Pharmacy, Medical Physics, Nursing Services Division and Clinical Oncology as well as ISO 14001 certification for the Environmental Management System and ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management System. The Clinical Pathology Department also had accreditation for its laboratories from the National Association of Testing Authorities and the Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme.

Each just cooked food product could be packed at pasteurization temperature and chilled in a timely manner which facilitates the storage of food and delivery of food product to other hospitals.

Starting Pilot Programme on New case referral triage system
The triage system was first piloted in Department of Medicine and had shown to be effective in reducing the risks with best utilization of the limited medical resources. It was later adopted by other public hospitals.

Telephone Nursing Consultation Service
Telephone Nursing Consultation Service was the predecessor of the Community Health Call Centre which established telephone follow-up programmes for discharged patients and a Centre of Telephone Triage for high risk elderly. In view of the encouraging results, the HA later expanded the programme and the service eventually covered all seven clusters in HA.
2003
Fighting SARS
PYNEH was among the first few hospitals with staff being infected with SARS. The hospital management took immediate contingency measures including the prompt conversion of some general wards into SARS wards with improved ventilation and active promotion of infection control measures and surveillance of practice. At the clinical front, our Respiratory Physicians were able to develop an effective patient management protocol for SARS patients. The mortality rate of our SARS patients was among the lowest in Hong Kong and their recovery was also considered to be the most satisfactory.
The only rooftop helipad at hospital with 24-hour operation
The helipad located at PYNEH Rooftop was built in 1993. In 2003, Government departments, related stakeholders and PYNEH had reached a consensus for service commencement.
EXITERS
PYNEH is one of the three hospitals participated in the EXITERS project. Vacant hospital quarters were converted into home-like settings to facilitate psychiatric patients re-integrate into the society.
2004
Post-SARS era
PYNEH continued to enhance its preparedness for SARS and other infectious disease outbreaks. Additional isolation beds (negative pressure equipped) were constructed and surge capacity for intensive care was built up.

Being a pioneer in introducing the service model of Emergency Medicine Ward, PYNEH alleviated the service demand in Accident & Emergency Unit and general medical wards.
Expansion of Minimal Access Surgery Training Centre
Addition of simulated facilities and training laboratory for endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery has facilitated skill transfer to all public and private practitioners of different surgical specialties.

The first Robotic EndoLap Operating Room in the world
Crew Resource Management (CRM) Campaign
PYNEH is entrusted by HA to pilot Crew Resource Management (CRM) training in 2009. CRM is an interactive training which aims at improving team communication and collaboration through simulation. The first CRM Symposium was successfully held in 2015. CRM simulation training programmes run by PYNEH are open to all HA staff.

The Opening of Occupational Medicine Service Centre
One of the two occupational health centres (OHCs) in HA established by the Government. The centre provides dedicated medical services for Government employees suffering from injury on duty (IOD) or occupational diseases (OD). Services are ranging from immediate to follow-up medical treatment, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and simple wound management.

Minimal Invasive Orthopaedic Integrated Operating Room with the first radiological scanner ‘O-arm” and computer navigation system in the Pan-China Area
Nethersole Clinical Simulation Training Centre (CSTC)
With the generous donation from the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Charity Foundation (AHNCF), the Nethersole Clinical Simulation Training Centre (CSTC) was officially opened on 8 December. The CSTC has a well-equipped audio-visual control room that could simulate clinical settings, such as resuscitation room in A&E Department, labour ward or operating theatre, with the use of realistic training manikins, to enhance the capability of clinical staff in crisis management. An expanded CSTC is ready in early 2020 to provide a wide variety of simulation training for healthcare workers.

Asian Hospital Management Award (Excellence Award) – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
In 2012, the ICU initiated a quality improvement programme with primary aim of preventing cases of Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) in critical areas. The programme prevented patient’s saliva from leaking into the lung which may cause pneumonia and strengthened the training of nurses with respect to ventilator care processes.

After years of preparation, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Centre commenced service on 28 September 2018 at00:00. The generous donation from a donor, the concerted efforts of staff from government departments, HAHO and PYNEH are the key elements for the successful launch. The Centre will extend its scope and service capacity to benefit the needy patients.

For many years, Mr & Mrs NG Wing-tong provide charitable and abundant support to our patients and staff. Thanks to their donation, the HaematologyWard is equipped with high level of ventilation system and able to provide a more ideal clinical environment for patients suffering from blood cancer with weak immune system.

The D. H. CHEN Foundation Integrated Oncology Day Centre
Given the growing numbers of cancer patients in Hong Kong, the importance of day care service has increased significantly. With the selfless donation from The D. H. CHEN Foundation, The D. H. CHEN Foundation Integrated Oncology Day Centre commenced service on 1 December which has greatly enhanced our service volume and provided patients with a safer and more comfortable environment.

Hybrid Operating Theatre
With the extensive support from a generous donor and The PYNEH Charitable Trust, and the concerted efforts of staff from HAHO and PYNEH, the Hybrid Operating Theatre commenced service in 2022 after years of preparation. Equipped with Intra-operative Computed Tomography Scanner and Robotic Arm Angiographic Machine, the theatre could cater for surgical needs from various specialties, especially urgent and complicated situations, which could greatly enhance surgical outcomes and patient safety.
