Department of Accident and Emergency (A&E) in Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH)
provides 24-hour emergency medical service to the community in the Eastern Districts of Hong Kong
Island. PYNEH A&E provides service for critically ill or injured persons who need urgent medical
attention and also provides medical support for victims of disaster. The emergency medical services
of PYNEH A&E also covers the outlying islands after office-hours including General Out-patient
Clinics located at North Lamma Island and Peng Chau of which telehealth consultation would be used
if needed. Moreover, PYNEH equips with Roof-top Helipad and A&E provides 24-hours support to the
flight medicine and Nursing services, inter-hospital transfer by Government Flying Services (GFS).
Furthermore, PYNEH A&E is one of the two Emergency Radiation Treatment Centres in Hong Kong to provide emergency service for patients with radiation injury. Besides, the department also provides service to patients with Hazmat injury. Emergency Medicine ward (EMW) of PYNEH is a short stay ward to provide 24-hours service to A&E patients for further investigation and treatment. Patients would be transferred to other specialties from EMW if needed. The first Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Centre in Hospital Authority which is located at A&E in PYNEH started the service from September 2018. The HBOT centre provides service for patients with indications for HBOT which include emergency and elective services.

- Dispatch of Emergency Medical Team for Major Civil Disaster on request from Fire Services Department
- Management of multi-casualties for Major Civil Disaster
- One of the two major Emergency Radiation Treatment Centres in Hong Kong
- Management of Hazmat patients
- 24-hours support to the flight medicine and Nursing services, inter-hospital transfer by Government Flying Services
- Designated Response Team for emergency medical service in the vicinity within hospital
