The Infection Control Team (ICT) of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) is composed of Infection Control Officer, Clinical Microbiologists, Infection Control Nurses and clerical staff. ICT strives to provide and promote high quality and evidence-based infection control advices and practices in the hospital.

Scope of Service

  • Develop written policies, guidelines and procedures for prevention and control of infections.
  • Conduct surveillance of healthcare-associated infections, related key performance indicators and antibiotic utilization.
  • Review surveillance findings, conduct risk assessment to develop strategic infection prevention and control measures.
  • Manage infectious diseases / biohazard materials exposure incident and outbreak
  • Implement programs on hospital and environmental hygiene, hospital waste management and medical equipment reprocessing.
  • Implement programs for protecting healthcare workers from the risk of infection in workplace include staff immunization, seasonal influenza vaccination, N95 respirator fit test etc.
  • Identify educational needs of healthcare workers and organize relevant infection prevention and control trainings
  • Participate in planning, construction and modification of hospital facilities to prevent and control infection in the built environment.
  • Act as a resource point for healthcare workers and collaborate with HAHO and Centre of Health Protection
